Transforming Maria is based on a character from pioneering 1927 sci-fi movie, Metropolis. In the film, there are two Maria's: one virtuous, the other a robot replica used by the bad guys.

My piece combines both the good and bad versions of Maria. My interpretation is a combination of female beauty and strength for a modern time, where women don't want to be just one thing or another.
